Junior Adviser Role: we have no vacancies at present
Your role:
Full time office based in one of our offices.
- You will come into contact with people from many different nationalities from all over the world.
- You will be involved initially in our private work, working under the supervision of a senior adviser and assisting with day to day case management of their private files. This will involve:File opening and closing routines.
- Diary management.
- Taking instructions from clients and giving client updates.
- Working with Interpreters and translators.
- Completing applications.
- Gathering and collating evidence & advising on the same.
- Operating the case management system that we use (LEAP).
- Communicating with clients via email, telephone and video conferencing.
- Progressing to your own caseload of private work covering areas such as passport applications, travel documents, family reunion applications, BRP card replacements, and building to some more complex applications such as spouse visa applications, ILR & citizenship applications as your experience grows.
Legal Aid
Subject to the demand and flow of legal aid work into the firm, you should be prepared for more exams and regard legal aid work as part of your future work with us and skill set. If there is a need for additional support with our legal aid work, we will support you with training for the Law Society’s IAAS exams to senior caseworker.
The process involves, firstly a multiple choice exam (MCT) taken online and then casework assistant exams and senior caseworker exams. It is a requirement to pass the senior caseworker exams in order to have conduct of legal aid cases… We cover the cost of training, the exams themselves and professional memberships.
After passing the MCT, you will be able to assist with basic fee earning work on legally aided cases run by the senior advisers, which work expands with experience gained and exams passed.
Typically, it will involve:
- Opening files
- Completing legal aid applications and obtaining evidence of means
- Advising briefly on the asylum process, timescales, evidence, dealing with routine enquiries and updates. Preparing statements and completing Home Office documentation. All done under the active supervision of a senior adviser.
Progression
Subject to experience and work levels and your ability we would anticipate that you will progress to senior adviser with us.
