Skilled Worker Visa UK-Application Process and Financial Support
When applying for a Skilled Worker visa for the UK, it’s important to be aware of the costs involved and to ensure you meet the financial requirements.
Application and Healthcare Surcharge
As part of the application process, there are standard fees to be paid, including an NHS healthcare surcharge. This helps cover your access to the UK’s National Health Service during your stay. These fees are mandatory and must be paid when submitting your application.
Proof of Financial Support
In addition to the application costs, you’ll need to show that you have sufficient funds to support yourself once you arrive in the UK. This is a key requirement to demonstrate that you won’t need to rely on public funds during your stay.
Reduced Skilled Worker Visa Application Fee For Jobs On the Immigration salary List
Certain occupations in the UK are listed on the government’s Immigration Salary List. These include roles in sectors such as healthcare, science, engineering, and technology.
If you’re applying for a Skilled Worker visa to take up one of these roles, you may be eligible for a reduced application fee.
To find out if your job is on the Immigration Salary List, it’s a good idea to check the official government website or consult with an immigration advisor.
NHS Healthcare Surcharge
As part of your Skilled Worker visa application, you’ll need to pay a healthcare surcharge for each year you plan to stay in the UK. This payment helps cover access to the National Health Service (NHS) during your time in the country.
If your stay includes part of a year, the amount you pay will depend on the length of that partial period. Typically, a reduced amount is charged for shorter periods under six months, while longer partial stays may require the full yearly rate.
It’s important to ensure this payment is included at the time of your visa application, as it is a mandatory requirement.
Funds To Support Yourself In The UK
As part of your application, you’ll need to show that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your initial stay in the UK. This typically involves providing bank statements that prove you’ve maintained the required amount in your account for a consecutive 28-day period. The final day of this 28-day period should fall within one month prior to your visa application date.
Alternatively, if your UK employer has agreed to cover your initial expenses, this will be confirmed in your Certificate of Sponsorship. In such cases, your employer must complete the relevant section labeled ‘sponsor certifies maintenance’ to indicate their support.
Dependents
If you will be bringing dependents to the UK with you, they will also need a visa each, if they are eligible. In addition, they will need to pay the healthcare surcharge and have funds available for their support. The sums needed for support will vary depending on the age of the dependents. Reductions are also made for second and subsequent children.
