Renew Biometric Residence Permit

Renew Biometric Residence PermitIf you hold a biometric residence permit, it is essential to ensure that it does not lapse. You should check the expiry date and, if necessary, apply to renew it. If the expiry date passes, you could receive a substantial fine from the Home Office, and encounter difficulties in moving to the new electronic system. To renew biometric residence permits, contact us and we will be happy to help.

At Halliday Reeves, we specialise solely in immigration, meaning that we have a high level of expertise in this complex area of law. We are accredited by the Law Society for immigration and asylum work at a senior level and have many years of experience in dealing with complex and challenging visa and immigration cases.

If you need help renewing a biometric residence permit, email us at enquiries@hallidayreeves.com or fill in our Contact Form and we will be happy to advise you. You can also speak to us on 0330 133 7777.

“Good service, I made application for skilled worker visa and later for ILR, both are successful, quick replies. Amazing job!”

When Do I Need A Biometric Residence Permit?

A biometric residence permit (BRP) is proof of your immigration status and includes other details, including your name, date and place of birth, any right to receive benefits and any conditions attached to your visa or other consent.

When you make a visa application or you apply for indefinite leave to remain, you will need to submit your biometric information – your digital photo and your fingerprints – at an approved site.

If you are in the UK, this is at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services service point or a Service and Support Centre. If you are overseas, it will be dealt with at a visa application centre.

If your visa or other application is approved, you will automatically be issued with a BRP.

Do I Have To Renew A Biometric Residence Permit?

A BRP issued with a visa usually expires at the same time as the visa. If your visa is due to expire, you will need to renew it if you wish to stay in the UK and you can resubmit your biometric information at the same time. This means that if your application to renew your visa is approved, you will also be issued with an up-to-date BRP.

If you have indefinite leave to remain, you need to renew your BRP before it expires. You may be able to submit a late application and we can help you with this to ensure that your reason for late submission is clearly explained. We will also make sure that your application is as strong as possible and that it includes all of the information that UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will need to renew your BRP.

“Karim was an excellent lawyer, very pleasant to work with and very knowledgeable of the law. I feel the success I’ve had in my application was due to the clear guidance that he provided. There was also a refreshing pace to which he was able to get things done. For any future applications I will happily seek his guidance again.”

How Do I Renew A Biometric Residence Permit?

To renew a BRP, you need to fill in an online form and put together documentary evidence of your continuous residence in the UK and of any changes in your circumstances that have occurred.

You must also pay a renewal fee and return your existing BRP to UKVI.

My Biometric Residence Permit Expires On 31 December 2024

If you have indefinite leave to remain, your BRP may expire on 31 December 2024. The reason for this is that the government intends to digitalise immigration status.

Instead of holding a BRP, you will be able to set up an online UKVI account and view your immigration details online using the ‘View and prove your immigration status’ service.

You will be able to create a share code as needed to allow others, such as potential landlords and employees, to view your status to check that you have the right to rent or the right to work in the UK.
