- Your spouse is one of the following:
o British or Irish
o Has UK settled status
o Has a Turkish Businessperson visa or Turkish Worker visa
o Has refugee status or humanitarian protection
o Has permission to stay in the UK as a stateless person - Your marriage is recognised by UK law
- Your relationship is genuine and subsisting
- You meet the financial requirements, which can be either in income or in savings
- You have a sufficiently good standard of English
- You and your spouse intend to live together in the UK
It is also possible to apply for a visa if you are not yet married but intend to marry within six months of coming to the UK. If you have been married before, you will need to provide proof that this marriage has ended. If you are given a visa to come to the UK to marry, you will need to apply for an extension once the marriage has taken place.

A renewed spouse visa lasts for two years and six months. It may be possible to apply for indefinite leave to remain after you have lived continuously in the UK on a spouse visa for five years.
